AbstractAgriculture is the mainstay of the economy of the developing countries. It contributes greatly not only to the rural development but the national development as an whole. Agricultural development, despite the great efforts and numerous actions by the authorities concerned, is still left with many rooms for improvements. There are many factors accelerating and contributing to agricultural development. This study, however, is attempting to analyze the need and the supply of production credit to the small farmers and the agricultural marketing facilities. Being also part of the Rural Planning Workshop, Organized b the Division of Human Settlements and Development, Asian Institute of Technology, part of this study is devoted to the development programmers recommended for the small farmers in Sri Lanka and Thailand.
