Abstract | The study was made to investigate the state of operations research applications in the public sector in Bangkok. Six organizations were selected, i.e., Bureau of Medical Services, Central Hospital, Bureau or Public Health, Bureau of Sanitation, Medical Evacuation Center, and The Telephone organization of Thailand. Information concerning the objectives, duties, organization structure, and some problems in these organizations are presented. The Bangkok Solid Waste management Study is presented to serve as an example of the process of applying operations research or other quantitative techniques to a public organization in Bangkok The models used in the study are described. Finally , the public organizations in Bangkok, the applications of operations research in the public services system in Bangkok , and this study itself, are discussed. A literature review on some areas of operations research applicable to the six organizations is included in an append ix . It is presented with an objective to show that operations research can be and has been applied to many problems in the public sector. |
