AbstractIn this study, first, a survey of investment allocation models for the planning of electricity generation facilities is presented. Empirical works by various authors are studied next to collect evidences about the nature of the production function in electricity generation and also to get an understanding of the related issues of economics of scale, and factor substitution. Then various analytical models which deal with both the issues of siting of energy facilities and input mix in energy production are developed taking account of the factors like transmission costs and the line losses. The issue of separability of the input mix decisions from the siting decisions are also discussed under various conditions.
