Abstract | A Database Management Systems (DBMS) with a Computational facility, called PSS (Planning Support System), is designed and implemented to enable the planner to use the computer directly for supporting planning. The planner can s tore his planning data in the system database, formulate his planning model and store it in the system file, and then execute this model with data selected from the system database. The results of model execution can be stored in the system database for further processing. The design of PSS emphasizes the human engineering aspect to ensure ease of us e, and the software engineering aspect involving top-down design, coding, and testing and structured programming to ensure ease of maintenance of the system. Programs are written in PL/I language using VSAM file organization. The PSS system runs under VM/370 CMS environment. |
