AbstractThe temperature of 30°c is an average ambient temperature of tropical countries. BOD determinations measured at this temperature would, therefore, be useful and appropriate for measuring of pollution strength of various wastewaters. 300 mi BOD bottle is currently used as standard BOD bottle for BOD determination of various wastewaters. This study suggests that 50 mi bottle can also be used as standard BOD bottle besides 300 mt bottle. Using 50 mt BOD bottle, the chemical cost for BOD analysis can be reduced by 75%. In this study, the BOD of pure organic compounds, domestic wastewaters, industrial wastewaters and river waters were determined at two different incubation temperatures of 20°C and 30°c by using 300 mt, 150 mt, 100mt, and 50 mt bottles. 150 mt and 100 mt bottles can also be used as BOD bottles for BOD determination. Using 50 mt BOD bottle, the 30°c BOD progression conformed closely in shape to that at 20°c, and 3-day 0 30°c, BOD values were found to be in reasonable agreement with 5-day, 20 C BOD values.
