AbstractThis thesis presents the results of an experimental investigation into the yielding behaviour of undisturbed samples of weathered Bangkok clay taken from Don Muang Airport site. Anisotropically consolidated drained and undrained triaxial tests, both in compression and in extension under stress-controlled condition were carried out. A yield locus for volumetric and shear strains is established for the weathered clay which separates the states for which the strains are small from those for which the strains are large. The experimental yield curve is compared with the yield curves determined for different types of soft clays as reported by LARSSON and SALLFORS (1981). The experimentally observed stress-strain behavior is compared with predictions from some of the models of clay behavior.
