AbstractBased on a secondary questionnaire survey of 2.876 respondents• opinions about the supply of 56 public facilities in Taipei City, the demands for various public facilities were analyzed in this study. Firstly, the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was applied to find out the frequency of demand for each facility, and the cross-tabulations of demand for each facility by various population characteristics including different sex., age, education level, occupation, monthly income, and administrative districts. The general situation of the people's demand tor public facilities was found out and explained from those frequencies and crosstabulations. Secondly, the Principal component Analysis (PCA) or Multivariate Analysis was applied to analyze the geographical variation patterns of demand t or public facilities among 16 districts. A composite index was calculated tor each district. Thirdly, those 56 public facilities were classified into 6 groups of facilities including : Transportation, Sports & Recreation, Utility, School. & Social Education, Security, and social Welfare. Each group was again subjected to PCA to find the composite demand index. By comparing these indices and the aggregated one, the evaluation of as well as the directions for improving the supply or public facilities were formulated. Lastly, attempts nave been made to find out the linkage between the subjective attitudes and objective conditions oi the public facilities by Simple correlation Analysis as well as Stepwise Regression Analysis.
