Abstract | Slums have always been in constant threat of eviction particularly in the cities where they occupy strategic and viable locations. Using the Scalogram, this study has shown that given a development stimulus appropriate to the status of these communities, slums do participate and is active in the development process in the cities. The community resources and their ability to organize and mobilize such resources were the main factors revealed as positive indicators for development that must be tapped in the slum communities. The conclusion of this study suggests that government and those responsible in deciding the fate of slum communities, take serious consideration of these existing and viable resources and recognize the rights of slum communities to exist, develop and participate in the development plans, directions and activities of the growing metropolis. |
