AbstractThe purpose of t his research is to study the techniques of cost-benefit analysis (CBA) and apply these techniques to an irrigation project. The case study is undertaken to appraise the rehabilitation of the irrigation tank in the Northeast of Thailand, called Lam Chamuak which is located at Changwad Nakorn Rajasrima. The study focuses on the appraisal stage of the project cycle and financial and economic analyses were carried out. Both analyses consider different aspects, the former assess s the project from a private point of view while the latter concentrate~ on the profit to society as a whole. These analyses are carried out by using techniques of CBA to determine NPW, IRR, B/C ratio. For the economic analysis, a set of conversion factors is applied to convert the market values to the values that reflect real resources costs and values. These prices are called shadow prices. Six case of sensitivity analysis have been done to cover all the most probable risks. The results from the analysis, NPW , IBB, B/ C ratio, both financial and economic, show that the project of rehabilitating the irrigation tank should be implemented.
