AbstractExperimental testings were carried out in order to investigate the load carrying capacities and the physical and mechanical properties of Casurina Junghuhniana Miq. trunks, referred to as Son-Pratipat. Bending, compression, shear, tension, specific gravity and moisture content tests were carried out on small clear specimen of Casurina Junghuhniana Miq. The load carrying capacities of Casurina trunks were determined on prototypes which included altogether ninety trunks having different slenderness ratios. The trunks were tested in a vertical position between two spherically seated platters under static and concentric loading. Test results indicated that the mechanical properties of Casurina Junghuhniana Miq. are more or less equal to those of Makamong, a common species of timber in Thailand. Based on the results obtained from compression test of Casurina trunks, linear equations which predicted the load carrying capacities of trunks expressed in term of their slenderness ratios are proposed.
