Abstract | The present study is conducted on a general finite element application to the class of combined flexure-torsion problems for beams of thin-walled cross-sections. Three finite elements for such a purpose are degenerated from the three dimensional field equations, using certain assumptions justified for thin-walled sections. By this method, effects of warping restraint condition can be fully accommodated. Various examples are presented to illustrate the versatility and effectiveness of the derived elements in practical analysis of thin-walled members. |
