AbstractIn this study, the surveying of the current processes of coarse construction aggregate plants production was carried out at first to investigate how advanced and how economic it would be, and to correct the products for gradation test. A mathematical prediction model of aggregate plant production was then developed to evaluate the production characteristics of an aggregate processing plant. Finally, the model was applied to an existing plant to test for the verification of the model by considering the comparison of the predicted outputs for actual operating plants and the observed outputs for the same plants. The comparison between the aggregate gradation obtained from existing plants and the aggregate gradation specified by the ASTM Standard, AASHTO Standard, British Standard, and Highway Department of Thailand Standard were also conducted in this paper. The mathematical model mentioned above has been confined to crushing and screening operations because the most difficult aspect of aggregate plant design was the prediction of the performance of crushing and screening equipment. Use has been made of all available crushing and screening theories as well as the available crushing and screening process models from current manufacturers, combined with Rancher's computer model which has been used as a guide for the development of this proposed mathematical model.
