AbstractThe strength properties of four commonly available bricks of Thailand were experimentally determined and the most suitable one for masonry construction was determined. With this chosen type of bricks, columns were built and tested to failure. The variations in the load carrying capacity with ratio were studied. age, various types of mortar and slenderness The load was applied concentrically and eccentrically with varing slenderness ratio. Results were compared with previously established theoretical and empirical strength formulae. Based on experimental data obtained in this research, new empirical relationships between column strength, mortar strength and slenderness ratio were also established.
