AbstractThis study was conducted during the ·late part of the wet season of 1981 at and near the AIT Campus, Bangkok, Two sites were selected for the measurement of the drainage discharge. Site 1 was an agricultural field divided into 9 equal plots and site 2 was an orchard. The drainage discharge on both sites was measured by flumes. Rainfall data were collected from the rainfall recorder installed at AIT Meteorological Station. The water table was also recorded by three observation wells at site 1 and with a gauge at site 2. Regressions were performed to find the relationships between precipitation and drainage discharge variables. Simple and practical equations are presented for the determination of the peak discharge of flow and total drainage volume from small agricultural fields. The equations derived are applicable to the design of minor drainage structures such as culverts and small bridges. A method is presented for the design of the pump capacity for the drainage of orchards, under specific conditions. The results obtained by these relationships must be considered as an aid to engineering judgement rather than proven figures. The author hopes that in the future, as new data become avail able, the relationships may be improved and brought up-to-date Recommendations for further studies are also given in Chapter VI.
