Abstract | Using historical streamflow data to build the models of streamflow and use those models for forecasti.ng and generating the synthetic streamflow is very important for water resource system development; multiple purposes water resource project planning, evaluating and constructing; effective usage and distribution policy of water resource. For independent annual streamflow , the Johnson Sb curve was used. Since there are different proposed techniques for its parameter estimation, namely the method of moments, method of percentiles with symmetrical and asymmetrical four points, a simulation study was carried out to search for the more suitable method. However, from the results obtained, it is quite difficult to make a definite conclusion. But from the use of actual data, it seems that the method of moments is more applicable. For dependent annual streamflow, Box-Jenkins nonseason ARIMA (p,d,g) models, i.e. autoregressive integrated moving average model with the iterative procedures, i.e. identification, estimation and diagnostic checking were applied to the sequences involved. For monthly streamflow, nonparametric method of cyclic standardization was used to remove the cyclic component, then non-seasonal ARIMA models were applied to model the remaining sequence. In both cases square root, logarithmic and Box··Cox transformations were applied to make the sequence satisfy the normality criterion. The criteria such as the AIC, BIC, and PPC were used along with the modified portmanteau statistic in order to select the best model from the competing ones, and to check the adequacy of the fitted model. |
