AbstractThe wind-induced current profiles in a coastal area with two-opposite directional flow are investigated. A numerical model has been developed to solve the system of a hydrodynamic equation of motion and equation of continuity. The model uses an explicit finite difference method. Different forms of eddy viscosity profile, namely, constant and space and time dependent eddy viscosity profiles have been used to compute velocity profiles. It is shown that in the two-opposite- directional unsteady flow, eddy viscosity profile being a function of space and time should be used to fit the vertical velocity profiles as observed in nature.
