Abstract | The present study employs multiple linear regression analysis for the forecasting of typhoons in Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of China. In this con text, the track of a typhoon and the accompanying rainfall in the next 24 and 48 hours are expressed in terms of 8 independent variables (called predictors) such as the initial longitude and latitude of the typhoon, the initial East to West and South to North components of its velocity, etc. By combining these predictors into nominals of degree <_ 3, six predictive equations are finally obtained by means of stepwise linear regression analysis. They can be used to provide relevant information for any mitigation operation in this area. |
