AbstractThe collective fight to achieve food availability and accessibility enters yet another decade clouded by the unforeseen interference of the COVID-19 Pandemic which has complicated what was considered as progress towards achieving ZERO HUNGER. With new scientific resolve and perseverance, the global community is laboring to work for communities that are nutritionally self-reliant and whose population enjoy an improved diet of all the essential nutrition required for their day to day lives. This research took a dive into the agricultural world of the Northeast region, Isaan, of the Kingdom of Thailand and assessed the ability of Smallholder Farmers to feed their families though the practice of Integrated Farming Systems through their financial performance. The research brought to light significant divergences in nutrition security between traditional and integrated farming, noting elevated dietary diversity in both practices. Despite integrated farming incurring higher average input costs, leading to increased financial burdens and within-group fluctuations compared to traditional farming, it consistently demonstrates higher average output. However, within-group variation in integrated farming's output is substantial. Notably, integrated farming consistently outperforms traditional farming in average savings and non-farm income, emphasizing its financial resilience. The study unveiled the multifaceted nature of nutrition security and financial dynamics, stressing the necessity for further investigation to derive conclusive policy implications. This research contributed valuable insights into the complex interplay of farming practices, nutritional security, and financial aspects in the specific context of smallholder farmers in the northeast region of Thailand.
