Abstract | The importance of designing a simple manual seeder for rice stubble soybean cultivation, has been felt for a long time, Because, the traditional methods of planting are slow, uncomfortable, need bending or squatting of the labourers during seeding and create too much fatigue, Given these facts, prototype I seeder was designed earlier. In prototype I, the seed breakage , jamming of seeds between the metering roller and the cut off plate, soil clogging in the seed passage were encountered, Later, some modifications, such as, tapering of the outer sliding tube instead of flat., fixing of a rubber piece with the cutoff plate were incorporated to prototype I. Still it was not useable by the farmers. To make it useable, some more modifications such as, thickening of the sharp end of outer sliding tube and filling up the seed passage to remove the soil clogging, redesigning of the cutoff plate and the seed cell of the metering device to remove the seed breakage problem, making of a gentle slope at the inner side of the outer sliding tube to remove the seed dispersion and non uniform seed delivery, reducing the slot through which the soil opener moves up and down to remove the shuttling of the connecting rod were incorporated, The capacity of the seeder was found to be 0.09 ha/day/person for rice stubble field and 0.07 ha/day/person for ploughed field. The capacity would be increased greatly when the operator had gained some experience in using the seeder and know the operational techniques, Another model of the seeder is also designed to make it suitable for big as well as small sizes of seeds, such as peanuts and mungbean. |
