Abstract | This study aims to determine the factors influencing the adoption of marketing outlets for small and medium organic farmers in Chiang Mai province, Thailand. The cross sectional data were collected from a sample of 200 small and medium certified organic farmers and the multinomial logistic regression model was used for data analysis. The marketing outlets adopted by small and medium organic farmers in Chiang Mai were diversified. Small and medium organic farmers mainly sell their products at organic farmers’ market, cooperative and/ or producer organizations, and fresh food market. The results show that the agricultural land size, organic farming experiences, distances from farm to marketing places, bargaining power, accessibility to market information and accessibility to marketing supports had influence on organic farmers’ adoption of marketing outlets. The adoption of integrated organic farming system, during transition to certified organic status, and delayed payment experience had no influence on organic farmers’ adoption of marketing outlets. This study provides the future trends on marketing outlets as well as policy alternatives for organic market development. |
