Abstract | This research aims to explore the tapioca starch manufacturing companies’ perceptions of the controllability of the production factors, to explore the companies’ perceptions of the effects of ability to control production factors on the quantity of starch production and to examine the correlation between manufacturers’ ability to control production factors and quantity of starch processed and to examine the correlation between manufacturers’ ability to control production factors and quantity of starch processed. In addition, this research also aims to examine the factors that affect the buyers’ preference of tapioca starch that in turn affects their purchasing behavior. The Weighted Average Index (WAI) and the Correlation coefficient were used to determine said scopes. A questionnaire was used to interview 35 tapioca manufacturers in 11 provinces in the North-eastern of Thailand and 100 Tapioca Buyers' in Pathum Thani. It was found that the high cost for replacement and moral hazard were most factor that tapioca manufacturers can completely control. Quality below standard was the most factor that can affect the quantity in tapioca production when manufacture cannot control these factors. Correlation coefficient from which controllability and impact on quantity were significant. For buyers was found that color, texture, certification, lowest price in the area, wholesale price, paying method, delivery method, sales promotions, and demeanor of salesperson were most influential to buyers. An increase in the tapioca price and demand can increase intention of farmers to crop the cassava and expand the planting area for cassava and this strategy will decrease import delay because the increase in the domestic cassava yields. Implementation of improve planting quality strategies in farmers position may prove effective in increasing cassava root quality. Moreover, improvement of production innovation on the new trend of biodegradable product may find the most beneficial market for manufacturers. |
