AbstractThis experimental investigation employs a statistical method for the evaluation of effective strength parameters of soft Bangkok clay. Undisturbed samples used in this investigation were taken from the AIT test site at a depth of 6.0 meter. Isotopically consolidated undrained (CIU) triaxial compression test with pore pressure measurements were carried out to determine the strength parameters. The test results were presented in the form of histograms and a theoretical frequency distribution was fitted to the observed data. The results obtained showed that the variation of strength parameters at 6.0 m depth (in the soft zone) can be fitted by the Pearson Type I and Beta I distribution. The accuracy in estimating the distribution parameters depended on the number of observations. In actual sampling of relatively few samples, the true mean can be predicted with some confidence limits by means of statistical analysis.
