AbstractSatisfying the preferences and needs of bus users is important. Several aspects of a bus service are regarded to fulfill the users requirement. Reliability is one of the aspects on list of people's preferences. Although Reliability can be defined in a number of ways, this study was especially concerned with the variabi.li ty of bus journey times, the distribution of bus headway s , and the average waiting times of bus users. The consistency of bus journey times on each bus route was studied to measure the ability of public transportation system to create public confidence that the users would be carried to their destinations on time. The distribution of headway s a nd the average waiting time, indices of bus reliability which are commonly used in bus studies, were use d to assess the reliability of bus service tram the viewpoint of bus users. It was found that there was no consistency in bus journey time on any route studied. The bus system lacked exact departure times tram terminals which caused variations of bus headway. There were a number of long head ways and large values of standard deviation of headways. These indicate large values Of average waiting time, which was expressed as a function of the mean headway and the coefficient of variations for a pattern of random arrival at a bus stop, and being able to board the first bus that came by. The results showed low reliability o f bus service tram the users viewpoint, a nd that bus services needed improve the schedules which were based on only the service frequency.
