AbstractThis study is an attempt to examine the impact of FAO's small farmer development programme on its target groups in Dhanusha district of Nepal . The research is an exploratory study on small farmer acceptance of the programme and its organizational structure and position in Nepal. The survey was carried out from August to October 1980 in two village panchayats. It was found that the project has a positive economic and social impact on the poorest rural farmers and landless labourers, who have joined this project. Owing to the success of the programme, many international agencies have increased their financial assistance, and so the government of Nepal has been able to expand the programme from two pilot projects to 24 units. Hopefully, the programme will cover its all target groups, throughout Nepal, in the near future .
