AbstractPreserved food industry in Thailand at the present moment is very competitive. The competition is such that the manufactures in this industry must be able to deliver the products that are ordered by their customers without backlogging as well as with competitive prices. Contrast to this, shortages of raw materials become common in the industry particularly during off-season . This increases the production cost significantly. One of the known approach to overcome this problem is by improving the existing inventory policy of the related manufacturers. This study is concerned with developing an inventory policy base on material requirements planning approach, which could help in solving the above problem. A preserved food factory is selected as study site. Base upon the existing operating procedures of the factory, the developing model was applied and a sensitivity analysis on important parameters was carried out. The results obtained indicate that material requirement planning approach could help in solving the above problem.
