AbstractFlow in ungauged basin can be simulated in two ways. The first method which is commonly used so far , is to calibrate the model to a similar gauged basin and use the parameter values thus obtained . The second is to use the parameter values based on measured basin characteristics. The model HYSIM whose most of the parameters are of the second type , has been applied to the basin Nam Mae Chan in Thailand to simulate stream flows without reference to gauged flow. Then the model was recalibrated by using Resenbrock method. Comparison of the recorded , pre-calibration simulated flow and Post- calibrated simulated flow have been shown . The results obtained are good. The correlation coefficients vary from 0.77 to 0.87 for daily flows and 0 . 88 to 0 . 99 for monthly flows . The correlation coefficients did not improve much , after calibration but with the exception of a few unnatural peaks, post calibration flow matches very well with the recorded flow. Comparison of the measured and calibrated parameter values demonstrate the viability of this approach.
