Abstract | A numerical analysis is performed by the characteristic method to describe the behavior of a long-period wave such as a tsunami wave running up on a beach . Three particular problems to be analyzed in this thesis are the wave motion near the shoreline, the subsequent run-up and the back-wash effect on the run-up . It is shown that the run-up process on the dry bed is concerned with the bore front condition , but the final run-up height depends on the wave characteristics behind the bore front and the water body specified by the initial wave profile. The back-wash which is considered as a return flow decreases the run-up height of the following wave. |
