AbstractThis study is aimed at examining the performance of two Storm Water System Models, namely, the Illinois Urban Drainage Area Simulator (ILLUDAS) Model and the Runoff Model of the Storm Water Management Model (SWMM), by comparing the model simulated hydrographs with the hydrographs measured on four instrumented urban watersheds. This comparison was done for the hydrograph peaks as well as for the entire hydrographs using such statistical meea measures as the correlation coefficient, the special correlation coefficient, and the integral square error. The results of this study indicated that when applied on small urban catchments both models performed equally good. On the other hand, when applied on larger catchments the ILLUDAS performed slightly better than the SWMM. Moreover, the application of both of these models should be limited to urban watersheds having sewers of diameter less than 30 inches and having no significant backwater effects in the sewers, for more accurate results.
