AbstractThis study aims to inspect the crack surface by using vibrothermography technique. The optimization model was presented to determine the vibrational frequency that provided high temperature difference between crack and non-defect locations. This optimization model was based on the theory of thermoelastic damping. In experiments, the specimens with surface crack were prepared from AL7075-T6. The characteristics of heat generation were studied through experiments by varying vibrational frequency, vibrational amplitude and the size of defect. Both experimental results and optimization results were in good agreement that vibration frequency 20kHz provided the highest temperature difference 0.33°C between crack and non-defect locations for this case study. While increasing the vibration amplitude and size of crack tended to increase the temperature at crack location. But the temperature difference between crack and surrounding area was less than using the suitable vibrational frequency with low vibrational amplitude.
