Abstract | Comparison of subroutines for solving ordinary differential equation initial value problems (ODEIVP) may be made by using an established test package DETEST. After a literature review, the necessary preparation of subroutines for testing under DETEST is described, and the performance statistics for efficiency and reliability obtained for four subroutines are summarized . It appears that subroutine VOAS based on the variable order Adams method is superior to all three Runge-Kutta codes tested (viz. RKF7, RKF45, RKSW), except perhaps at low accuracy if function calls are inexpensive . |
