AbstractTruck Regulations of a novel type were introduced in Bangkok in 1975. Since then this is the first study to assess any of its effects. This study gives the results of the surveys and analysis of effects of regulations on traffic on the main approach roads, and on the time lost by inbound trucks. 24-hour classified traffic volume counts were made on each of the four main approach roads to Bangkok on weekdays (when the regulations are in operation) and one 24-hour count on a weekend day (when the regulations are not in operation) at one main approach road. Seven vehicle classes, covering almost all motorized vehicles, were used. A survey of trucks parked along the roadsides due to the regulations, was also made on the same main approaches. After analyzing the survey data it was revealed that at the time of survey; 4% to 7% of daily inbound trucks are directly affected by the regulations, and 20% to 22% of total daily trucks leave or enter the city during restricted hours. There is no significance change in the truck flows between weekdays and weekend days . More than 8.5million Baht are being lost each year in terms of value of time lost by inbound trucks.
