Abstract | The basic objectives of this research were to find out the causes of (a) delay in project implementation, (b) low productivity, and (c) low total production. Three out of the ten settlements involved in the sericulture-promotion project in northeast Thailand were chosen as study areas. The analytical- techniques used as an aid in arriving at the finding were descriptive analysis and Quantification theory type I. The finding of this study basically suggests that: (a) The delay in project implementation was due to poor project management and defective schedule design; (b) The low productivity was due to the low quality of silkworm eggs and to the l ack of incentives to encourage the subjects to engage in silk worm rearing; (c) The low total production was due to the low productivity caused by poor-quality silkworm eggs, the lack of incentives, the delay in project implementation and t he number of broken cycles in the total production system;ยท. Recommendations for the improvement of the existing set-up are : (a) To improve the quality of silkworm eggs by improving t he silkworm eggs production station and by training a sufficient number of personnel to man egg production in each subcentre, especially focusing on the Udorn Sub centre. ( b ) To improve mulberry cultivation, instituting closer supervision of the mulberry cultivation process. ( c) To have a refresher training course on mulberry cultivation and silkworm r earing . |
