AbstractThis study developed two quantitative models for the tourism industry of Indonesia. One was a budget allocation models, by modifying a previously developed model. Budget was limited for developing tourism industry in ten separately touristic areas simultaneously. The model was formulated mathematically in the form of zero-one integer programming. A most appropriate program for allocating the available budget is the objective of the model. In solving the problem, computer was made use and the optimal development plan was obtained which presents a list of tourism projects to be undertaken for a certain allocated budget. The other model was a system dynamic model which was developed to forecast tourist arrivals in Indonesia. Dynamic variables used in the model are population, income per capita, business/industrial growth, increasing of leisure time, changing cost/time of traveling, market share of Indonesia's tourism in the international tourism market and development of tourism industry of Indonesia. Computer Dynamic Model (DYNAMO) compiler was used to solve the problem and a forecasting of international tourist arrivals in Indonesia by country of origin for twenty five years (1976 - 2000) was obtained.
