AbstractThe single strike impact resistance of ferrocement and wooden boat hulls is investigated in this study. Experiments were performed on the total of 3 groups of 30 wooden (Takien Tong wood) panels and 1 group of 3 ferrocement panels. The test results show that the method stated in this study can predict reliably the single strike impact resistance of ferrocement and wooden boat hulls. The test results were presented in graphical forms and could serve as a basic guideline for the design of wooden vessels. The cost comparison of the two materials were also made and final conclusions drawn based on the cost and impact strength properties.
