AbstractThis study concerns with the small scale hydro-power potential. Its objective is to evaluate the feasibility of the project of such a small hydro-power plant for customers of isolated area like villages, pump irrigation, small industries, rural water works etc. where the present is not covered by the main network. This type of power plants if feasible will help accelerate the rural electrification plan and at the same time will be the alternative sources energy of diesel generation which now exist in remote area. This in turn will reduce the importation of oil for power generation, save the foreign currency, improve the payment deficit. · This study, however, is more of the academic exercise rather than for the real implementation. The projects under studied are thus of small reservoir for daily regulation and stresses are made more on theory than on practical. The results obtained from this study indicate that the small hydro-power projects, when compared with diesel power plants, are economically feasible. With the oil price keep rising, this type of hydropower projects should be paid more attention. They show real great potential for the success of the rural electrification plan and release the country · from oil burden to some extent.
