AbstractThis study presents two numerical hydraulic models namely the Single Reach model and the Node and Branch model to solve unsteady one dimensional open channel flow problem. The numerical f l ow solutions are obtained by solving the governing equations consisting of the basic continuity and momentum equations through the finite difference of implicit scheme. The models are calibrated with the observed data at different stations along the Bang Pakong river, Thailand, using the low flow data in March, 1979. The river reach considered, extends from the Bang Pakong Power Plant site near the river mouth to a distance, 120 km upstream. The boundary conditions are the upland fresh water discharge and the tidal elevations at the river mouth. The model results are the hydrographs of stage and discharge at any station throughout the river stretch under consideration. The models are verified using a different data set of the same low flow period. The performances and characteristics of the model s are investigated and analyzed considering the consistency , stability, accuracy and convergence of numerical results.
