AbstractThis study presents a simulation mathematical model of the one-dimensional unsteady salinity intrusion in Mekong estuarine system. The basic continuity( momentum . and salt balance equations have been used in developing the model. The partial differential equations describing the general flow regime and dispersion condition are written. in finite difference form of implicit scheme and are solved numerically. The computer program for the salt balance equation taking into consideration the estuarial network of the schematized form of the Mekong estuarine system is developed and incorporated into the existing tidal hydrodynamic computer program to simulate the salinity condition along the estuarine system. Initial and boundary values are used to obtain space and time varying salinity distribution. The computed results are compared with observed values at selected stations along the Mekong estuarine system. The effects of the model parameters i.e. Chezy coefficient, C and apparent diffusion coefficient, D with respect to water level, discharge and salinity are presented and discussed . Conclusions and recommendations for further studies are also given in Chapter VI .
