Abstract | A field experiment with corn (Zea Mays L. ) was conducted to study the fertilization potential of treated (high rate oxidation pond effluent) and untreated (raw sewage) domestic waste water. A split plot design with 3 levels of N application (basal dressing) and 3 different water treatments was adopted. Soil, water and plants were analyzed for N, P, K and Na, twice 4 times and 6 times, respectively throughout the growth period. Nutrient con centration, uptake, dry matter weight at 6 harvests during growth period and finally the grain and Stover yields increased with an increase in fertilizer N application rate. Raw sewage gave highest values for all these characters at all levels of N, tap water the lowest and pond effluent was intermediate e.g. grain yields at N 100 level were 5550 Kg with raw sewage, 4720 Kg with oxidation pond effluent and 3990 Kg/ha with tap' water. Concentrations of all nutrients were soon diluted to lower levels with increase in dry matter and age of plants. Yields were a linear function of total N applied, irrespective of the water treatment. |
