AbstractUnderlying patterns of variations among 92 variables associated with the quality of life in Thailand were examined and interrelationships among the 70 provinces were discerned by regionalizing these provinces of Thailand. Factor analysis was applied to determine the underlying patterns of variations among the 92 interrelated variables in the 70 provinces. Sixteen quality of life factors were yielded by the factor analytic solution. They are: 1) General Quality of Life Factor; (2) Community Service Needs; 3) Religion; 4) Economic Factor; 5) Environmental Quality; 6) Traffic Accident; 7) Fertility; 8) Child Employment; 9) Industrialization; 10) Transportation; 11) Basic Education; 12) Mortality; 13) Crime; 14) Demographic Mobility; 15) Aged or Retired; and 16) Health. Together the sixteen factors accounted for 87.70 percent of the common variance. The results of the study showed that Trat and Chanthaburi emerged with the highest quality of life index, while Mae Hong Son and Phichit came out with the lowest quality of life. While the provinces with the highest quality of life index are associated with the high income and resort areas, those provinces with a very low quality of life index are associated with areas with poor environmental conditions, high fertility rate and poor basic education. Despite its primacy, Bangkok did not come out as the province with the highest quality of life,
