AbstractThe physical and mechanical properties of some selected Thai timbers were investigated in this study. Bending, impact, compression, shear, hardness, tension, specific gravity and moisture content testswere carried out on small clear specimens of Krabark, Teak, Yang, Lumpore, Takien Tong, Makamong, Pradu, Rang, Teng and Daeng wood. Tests were conducted on both air dry and green timbers. The test results were presented in graphical and tabular forms and could serve as a basic guide line for the design of timber structures. The cost comparison of various species were also made and final conclusions drawn based on the cost and strength properties.
