AbstractAn experimental investigation of various construction joints on ferrocement specimens tested in direct tension and pure bending from the points of view of strain, deflection, first visible crack and ultimate load was described. The variables chosen for the investigation were joint width and joint material; the other parameters such as sand grading, quality and quantity of cement and water, mortar mixing, type and size of wire mesh, percentage of reinforcement, curing method and period, thickness of cover and the physical dimension of specimen being kept constant. The study reported here was conceived as a beginning point of research program for the investigation of the behaviour of construction joint in ferrocement. Further studies shall be dealt with the complexity of all the phynomena involved and their inter-relation.
