AbstractThis study shows how the finite difference method can be used to analyze two dimensional reinforced concrete plate under progressive cracking. Based on very fundamental equations and concepts, the analysis is a step by step procedure that takes account of the change in rigidity of each region, due to cracking of concrete or yielding of steel, under increasing load. Numerical examples are given to beams and simply supported two way slabs. The numerical results agree well with available experimental results and ACI (1971) code recommendations.
