AbstractThe ultimate strength of elastic-plastic steel arches with rectangular cross section is investigated. used in this analytical study. The ideal stress-strain curve for steel is Parametric study has been made to show the influence of the rise- span ratio, the slenderness ratio and the load parameter upon the ultimate resisting capacity of the arch. The direct stiffness method considering the effects of geometric and material nonlinearities is developed. The results are presented non-dimensionally in the form of ultimate load-parametric factors relationship.
