Abstract | This work presents a method of predesign determination of project duration and cost for building projects in Bangkok metropolitan area. The duration of building is a function of number of variables such as total floor area, height, type of foundation and structure, weather conditions, supply of resources, technology available, efficiency of people, original tendered period, planning, repetitive works, number of subcontracts, changes in working drawings, and number of major equipment used. The cost of building is a function of building height, number of types of major equipment's used, price index, type of building and quality of building. Each of these variables are assigned with an appropriate value by utilizing past information. The order of importance of the variables is found by stepwise linear regression and then multiple linear regression is used to get the appropriate prediction equation for duration and cost estimation with elimination of nonimportant variables. The prediction equations obtained were tested on the regression data itself and on the completed projects outside the data used for regression. This shows that the duration and cost of a proposed building can be estimated with an accuracy that is satisfactory and reasonable. The reliability of the prediction equations was tested by means of statistical inference. |
