AbstractThe aim of this research work is to study the feasibility of composite arched slabs for the construction of bridge decks. Experimental and theoretical studies were carried out to study the behavior of this kind of slab. A uniform composite slab and an arched composite slab were designed by considering the wheel load. Static tests were carried out in the Laboratory on these two slabs. A clear comparison can be made from these test results. Theoretical study is based on the linear elastic theory of finite strip method. Program FISBOB is used to solve the problem. Experimental results are verified by the use of theoretical methods. Also the effect of skin plate, edge beam etc. are studied by the help of theoretical methods. Finally design curves are obtained for various values of span and rise.
