AbstractThe main purpose of this work is to seek for a method to predict the dosage of super water-reducing admixtures in restoring the lost consistency of concrete. There commercially available super water-reducing admixtures were used in the experiments. Their performance was tested in concrete mixtures of various slump levels and water-cement ratios. Dosage and time of addition of the admixtures were also widely changed. Based on these results, the factors affecting the amount of consistency recovery were closely examined and a simple equation for determining the dosage of the admixtures was proposed. A practical method of adding the admixture for the purpose of consistency recovery was also discussed. The followings are the main findings. 1. Main factors which have large influence on the amount of consistency recovery are dosage of the admixtures, remaining consistency level , and initial consistency of concrete. 2. The dosage of the admixtures required for full consistency recovery decreases linearly with the increase of remaining slump at the time of recovery.
