AbstractA one dimensional mathematical model which can describe a flow and a morphological behaviour of a river has been developed in the present study. The governing equations of the mathematical model are the continuity and momentum equations for water and sediment. These equations are solved simultaneously using the modified Lax scheme which is a finite difference approximation of explicit scheme, The model has been applied to the Chao Phraya River reach from the Chao Phraya Dam to Bang Ban - a distance of 118 km - to simulate the effect of river bed dredging on the flow and river morphology during the hydrological years 1973 to 1977. The relevant model parameters, such as the Chezy roughness factor (C}, the damping factor (8) and the weighing factor (a) are calibrated by trial and error adjustment such that good agreement between the computed and observed water levels and bed levels is obtained, Sensitivity analysis and convergence tests have been performed to understand more deeply the performance and characteristics of the model and these results are also presented.
