AbstractLandslides are major geological hazards abundant in the mountainous regions of Nepal. The 2015 Nepal Earthquake and its after-effects caused thousands of landslides in the country. For better understanding of landslides, detection and creation of database for such detrimental events can contribute in land use planning, to assess road blockages, formation of natural dams, engineering and construction of new infrastructures. Thus, this study aims to develop rule-based transferable pixel-based and object-based semi-automatic approach. Moreover, change detection was determined using NDVI, SA VI and MSA VI from bitemporal Landsat-8 data and rules were defined from spectral properties to obtain possible landslides. The study area was divided into two parts: train and test study area. The accuracy assessments for classification shows potential for transferability of defined rules and applied method for aid in disaster management and decision support.
