AbstractThis study focuses on identification of the affected area on public health from pesticide leaching of highland agriculture in Nan province, Thailand. There are 3 objectives in this study. The first is analysis of the change of agricultural area on highland and trend of land use change in Nan province in 2006, 2013 and 2016. The second is identification of the affected area of pesticide leaching from highland agriculture in Nan province using hydrological tools. The third is analysis of the spatial data associated pesticide usage and pesticide contamination with cancer cases in Nan province. Satellite images, which were Landsat 5 TM in 2006 and Landsat 8 Ol.J in 2013 and 2016, were used to analyze. Additional data used in this study include Digital elevation model, cancer cases data from Lampang Cancer Hospital, documents, statistical data, field survey and field observation data. The analytical methods are composed of supervised classification method, python coding method and statistical analysis. Spatial data were analyzed by Arc Hydrology toolset and geographic information systems. It found that highland forest area mainly changes and decrease from 2006 to 2016. However, the highland forest area decreased from 2006 to 2016. Land use change matrix shown the immense change in the land use type between 2006 and 2016. There has been huge decrease for highland forest (-764.61 sq.km). On the other hand, there has been large increase for highland agriculture (+549.43 sq.km). Overall pesticide application rates and pesticide contamination in Nan province were calculated from flow accumulation in specific land use. There was the highest volume in Santisuk district in 2006 while in 2013 and 2016 was found in Chaloem Prakiat district. Moreover, the highest pesticide contamination volume in 2006, 2013 and 2016 were found in Na Muen district which were 0.3222 g/km2", 0.4255 g/km2 and 0.4196 g/km2, respectively. According to regression analysis results revealed no association in Lymphoma cases, land use change, pesticide usage and pesticide contamination. Flow accumulation was buffered which buffer distances were 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 meters then urban area was overlaid for calculate affected urban area in each buffered distance. The most urban areas in each district were located in range of 500 meters from flow line. Around sixty-five percent of urban areas of Tha Wangpha, Pua and Wiang Sa district were located nearby the flow line. While, the number of lymphoma cancer cases of those districts were in high rank of Nan province.
