Abstract | Nowadays, carbon content in the atmosphere is increasing due to greenhouse gas emission. Forest is an important area for absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by the process of photosynthesis and stores in the form of biomass. This research aims to estimate aboveground biomass and carbon of mangrove forest in Kung Krabaen Bay Royal Development Study Center in Chanthaburi province using synthetic aperture radar (ALOS- 2) data both ofHH and HV polarization with field survey data. For field data, there are 10 reference sample plots of 10m. x 10m., and measuring the diameter at breast height (DBH), height (H), and species for biomass calculation from allometric equations. The total aboveground biomass calculated is 380.81 tf ha and total carbon calculated is 178.98 t Cfha. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is a technique that uses high-frequency wavelengths for biomass estimation. HV backscattering of ALOS-2 with field calculated biomass compared to HH utilizes for biomass model generation by linear regression analysis. HV backscattering of ALOS-2 shows good relation (R2 = 0.85) with field calculated biomass compared to HH (R2 = 0.43) utilizes for biomass model generation by linear regression analysis. |
